Salvation Army Church Candice

collapse post

We hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial weekend. Yesterday we ministered at the Hispanic Salvation Army church here in Avondale.  We had a wonderful time and truly felt the presence of the Holy Spirit in the place.  We sang "Days of Elijah", "If My People Pray", "Jesus" and in honor of Memorial day we sang one of our favorites "God Bless America Medley".  Our good friends Larry and Lora Root came to support us.  They are such a blessing to our family and we love having them when they come to our performances.  Crystal and I shared our testimony with the congregation and since it was a Hispanic church, everything we said had to be translated into Spanish.  The Lord has allowed us to sing in a Romanian church, a Jewish born-again believing church, an Arabic church as well as an Eastern Indian church  We never imagined we'd have so many opportunities to sing in so many places, but where ever the Lord leads us we go.  Yesterday, after we sang, there was a gentleman who stood up to make a comment.  He told the congregation that our story had inspired him.  Here he was struggling and going through a difficult time, but after hearing our testimony he was uplifted.  If we can touch somebody's life through song and testimony, that is what our ministry is about.  May the Lord Bless You!!

Staying Busy Crystal

collapse post

This week has been quite busy around here.  We helped our parents with a garage sale on Friday and Saturday to get rid of things we no longer need or use.   It was pretty successful, we sold quite a few items.  Our parents put the money toward a new vanity for the powder bathroom.  It'll be two years this coming August since we moved out here to Avondale.  One of the reasons we moved was so that Candice and I could have a bigger closet.  Our closet space in our old home was very limited and we were using everyone else's closets to store some of our clothes in.  So our clothes were scattered all over and it was hard to keep track of all of them.  In this home all the closets are walk-in.  Which is really nice, we have more than enough space between the five of us.  Our dad is in the process of painting the inside of our home.  He is using a cream color and accenting in terracatta.  The two colors look really good together, it's amazing at how warm it makes the rooms look.  It is definitely a change from the builder's white.  It'll be nice when he gets the whole house completed.

In our last post we mentioned that we had a few performances coming up.  We did sing at the Womens Republican luncheon last Tuesday and had a great time.  We sang a few inspirational songs and entertained them while they were having lunch.  Our mom shared our story with the women while we took a little break.  It was really nice.  Yesterday morning we got up and went to church and after that we went and sang at a voice recital in the afternoon.  We have been taking lessons with Karen Crawford for almost two years and this was our second voice recital with her.  It was held at her in-laws home in Litchfield Park.  Candice chose to sing a German piece called "Widmung" by Robert Schumann and I sang a French piece "Plaisir d'amour". by Martini il Tedesco.  It went very well.  I always enjoy meeting and listening to others who are studying with Karen.  There were nine of us that performed and then we had a little reception afterwards.

This coming Sunday we are singing at a Hispanic Salvation Army church here in Avondale.  We sang there last year and were invited back to minister again.  So, we are preparing some songs for that.  The following Sunday we are scheduled to sing at a church in Superior, Az.  We are excited about these bookings.  The Lord has opened so many doors for our ministry and we just continue to thank him for allowing us the opportunity to serve him.

Psalms 9:1

1 [a]"I will praise you, O LORD, with all my heart;
       I will tell of all your wonders."

 2 "I will be glad and rejoice in you;
       I will sing praise to your name, O Most High."

Happy May! Candice

collapse post

Hello! It's been a while since we last posted anything.  We are doing well and have been quite busy practicing for our upcoming performances this month.  We have a womens luncheon next Tuesday that we are preparing inspirational music for.  The Sunday after that is our student voice recital with our voice teacher.  Crystal and I have been taking voice lessons since the age of 12, over the past 14 years we have taken from a total of five different voice instructors.  We have benefited from everyone of them, but we are currently studying with Karen Crawford.  She is a wonderful teacher and we've learned so much from her within the last year and a half.  We enjoy singing and training in classical music.   I am currently working on a couple of German pieces, "Widmung" and "An die Musik." Crystal is working on a couple of French pieces, "Plaisir D'amour" and "Juliet's Waltz" which is quite demanding.  It's a bit of a challenge learning and singing in a foreign language.  We have sung in Latin, Italian, German, and Crystal has done French.  I haven't learned French yet, but I am hoping to attempt it soon.  We will pick one of the two songs that we're working on to sing at the recital on the 20th.  May 27th we will be ministering at the Salvation Army church here in Avondale.  We ministered there last year and were invited back.  So we are looking forward to that.

We had our sister Rhonda here for most of the weekend visiting from Cottonwood.  She and mom spent time shopping together and catching up.  It was so nice to see her when we have the opportunity.  She is so special to us and we love her lots.  Our friend Krystle came over on Friday and spent the day with us.  We met another friend of ours Susan, at Mimi's cafe for lunch.  Susan and her husband use to go to our church years ago.  They had to leave our church because it was too far of a drive from where they live.  Susan, Krystle, Crystal and I sang in a professional singing group called "Little Women".  If you remember the book "Little Women" that is how we dressed in the huge Victorian gowns and sang songs from the 1800's.  It was a lot of fun, but very exhausting.  We started singing in the group when we were 18 and still in high school.  After four years with the group we decided to resign and commit to our full time ministry "Angels in Voice".  It was very difficult to juggle a full time college schedule, "Little Women" and our ministry.  While dropping out of Little Women was a difficult step, it made our load a little lighter and our voices weren't as tired.  It was a great experience and we made some life long friendships.  While Krystle was here visiting on Friday we put our old Little Women videos on and watched them.  We had a good time watching and singing along with every song.  It brought back old memories for sure.

On Saturday we went to our church choir party.  It was held at Paul and Susanne's home.  Paul is the new choir director at our church.  We had a wonderful time of fellowship, he cooked a Mexican feast.  It was so delicious!!

Crystal and I sang "I Bowed on My Knees and Cried Holy" at church yesterday morning.  It is a beautiful song.  It was one of the first songs we learned back when were 19 years old.  It talks about seeing our loved ones again when we die and all the people we will see when we enter the gates of Heaven.  The one we long to see is Jesus, he is the one who died for us and one day soon we will finally meet him.  This song is one of our favorites and it has a powerful message.  A couple of years ago Crystal and I were singing at a church and a young man came to know Christ through this song.  We were so excited for him.  How awesome it is to know the Lord uses songs to bring people into his kingdom.  We pray that our ministry will bring many more to Christ and the Lord will continue to use us to sing for HIS honor and glory.
