Voice recital/ Medical update! Crystal

collapse post

We have had a nice, quiet week.  The past two weeks have felt like spring weather.  There were a few days, we were in the 80's.  It's getting too warm too quickly, we're not quite ready for spring weather yet.   We had a nice week of shopping with mom and dad, and just spending time with our family.  The voice recital last Saturday evening went very well.  The recital was held at St. Thomas Aquinas.  There were nine women all together.  We each had to introduce our songs and explain what they were about because they were in a foreign language.  I started the recital with "Jauchzet Gott In Allen Londen" by Bach and followed with "Ach Ich Fuhls" from the play the Magic Flute by Mozart.  Candice followed me with her two songs. "Danza, Danza" by Durante and "Adieu" by Faure.  We then had the honor of singing a trio "Suscepit Israel" from the Bach Magnificat with our voice teacher Karen.  The recital was a lot of fun.  Ann Nagel was our accompanist and she did a wonderful job playing for all of us.  Candice and I are becoming a little more comfortable with singing solos in front of an audience.  It's definitely a challenge for us but one that is getting a little easier.  I was still struggling with my voice that day, but I was just really thankful that we were able to be a part of it.

Candice woke up Tuesday morning with a fever of 101.4.  She had a slight headache and her chest was really tight.  After taking some Tylenol the fever  went away and she was fine for three days, however last night she went to bed with another fever.  She didn't take her temp, so we don't know how high it was. She was chilling and complained that her head was hurting again. There is obviously something going on, but we aren't exactly sure what is causing it.  She had a viral infection off and on through the last part of Novermber and the whole month of December.  She was on two rounds of Prednisone and two rounds of antibiotic, but she was unable to finish the last round of antibiotics because it started bothering her stomach. We were thinking it could possibly be a flare up of Valley Fever.  She has had that for six years now and has a nodule on the right upper lobe of the lung.   She saw Dr. Radford our Pulmonologist yesterday morning and she was not sure what it is.  She ordered lab work so that she could check the cocci level.  Candice is on Diflucan every day to help treat the nodule and in her last chest Ct scan it was staying pretty stable and starting to calcify.  We should know the results of the blood work sometime early next week.  In the last Ct scan back in Novermber at the Mayo clinic, it showed there was a new 4ml spot on the left side of the lung.  That was around the time she started getting sick.  She will have another chest Ct scan next month at Mayo. We are praying it will be all clear.

I went for a follow up chest Ct scan on Tuesday.  My last one was done two years ago, and so I was due for another one this year.  I should also have my results by next week.

Next week is turning out to be quite a medical week.  On Monday dad has his three month bladder scope follow up in the morning and mom has an eye appointment in the afternoon.  Her left eye is healing very well and she will be getting the stitches removed soon.

On Tuesday our brother Jody will be having his defibrillator replaced.  He has had this one for almost six years and it's time for him to have a new one.  Please keep our family in your prayers as we have a lot of medical things happening these next couple weeks.

Brief Update! Crystal

collapse post

I wanted to write a quick update since we haven't in a while.  I was under the weather for the past two weeks with a sinus infection that went into my chest.  I was coughing quite a bit and my voice was very hoarse.   I went to see Dr. Altman the ENT specialist last Thursday, and he checked my throat and vocal cords.  He said I definitely had an infection and that my cords looked a little swollen.  He advised me to only do light singing for a few days and prescribed 1000mg of Cipro for ten days and five days of Prednisone 30mg.  I finished the Prednisone on Tuesday and I'm feeling better, still a little tired though.  Our student voice recital with our voice teacher is tonight at St. Thomas Aquinas.  Candice and i have spent a lot of time practicing our two solo pieces.  We are also singing a trio with our teacher Karen.  The rehearsal went very well last night.  It was really neat hearing the other six students perform their selections.  We are excited and looking forward to the concert this evening.
